I’m about to take a nap, because apparently that’s the kind of person I am now, but I’m still enjoying our Texas fall weather. Days are a little warmer than my preference, but mornings and nights are wonderfully chilly, and I have a freshly shaved head that enjoys every little breeze.

Almost two months later after the start of my bad cold, I can finally sing again without coughing in the middle of most songs. Still some damage that I need to be careful with. Need to build up stamina, power, breathing… I’m teaching myself Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire,” which seemed timely.

I’m hitting a middle-age milestone tomorrow. I have lots of mixed feelings, most of them on the negative side, so I’m going to try to take care of myself through it.

News:

Nothing this week.

Works in Progress:

Work-work promotion has me taking on more hours, which kind of exhausts my brain and keeps me from writing much, just in case I was wondering why I don’t make as much money per week as I technically could.

I was supposed to write on Wednesday, but I also got double jabbed, which gave me some mild flu symptoms. I hate feeling unproductive, but sometimes I need a nothing day, regardless of my preference. After my nap today, I hope to get back into the Mary Reilly essay.

Books I’m Reading:

The Violence by Delilah S. Dawson
Fissure Face by Patrick C. Harrison (finished)
My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

Poem of the Week:

Going on an adventure
Walking out the door
World’s so wide, welcoming
Stranger journeys in store

Here I go a-wandering
Sunny sky shifting to cloud
What seemed placid and peaceful
Has turned angry and loud

Rain sends me running for cover
Wind chills me to the bone
One lock after another
I think I’ll still stay home
